Siemens has been active in Nigeria since 1950. The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board designated Siemens an original equipment manufacturer (OEM), leading to the award of the Nigerian Content Certificate, a key requirement for bidding and winning contracts in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry. The Site Chemical Engineer is responsible for ensuring compliance with guidelines governing the mode of operation of the steam, condensate and feedwater cycle, and supports the Site Managers for Civil Construction, Mechanical Erection, Electrical & I&C Installation as well as Mechanical and Electrical/I&C Commissioning.
General, superordinate tasks and duties (within his or her own scope of responsibility):
- Ensure compliance with the environmental, fire protection and occupational health & safety regulations.
- Ensure definition of and compliance with the requirements governing quality, time schedules (deadlines) and costs.
- Ensure compliance with the data protection and information security requirements governing e.g. personnel data, design calculations, costings and proposals (bids).
- Ensure experience and information feedback (via e.g. CAPA and PCM).
- Maintain and update the List of Open Points (WeB LOP).
- Provide support for project site-specific reporting (e.g. daily, weekly and monthly reports).
Further important tasks and duties of the Chemical Engineer:
  •   Advising Site Management on all issues concerning chemical engineering such as corrosion protection and preservation; providing support for pickling and flushing operations.
  •  Advising on matters concerning plant chemistry and chemical monitoring during system commissioning and plant operation, as well as induction and instruction of customer’s/owner’s personnel.
  • Assuming the duties and responsibilities of a mechanical commissioning engineer for chemical systems and plants (e.g. demineralization, chlorinating, sampling and dosing systems).
  • Monitoring contractors to ensure observance of site rules & regulations including the permit-to-work procedure within his or her own scope of responsibility.
  • Managing of emissions monitoring systems and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements within the framework of responsibility for water resource management.
  • Ensuring safe and reliable chemical operation of systems in accordance with specifications and assessment of chemical analyses.
  • Management of water and wastewater treatment systems as well as purification, dosing and sampling systems.
