Tell your father Nigerians are suffering, VeryDarkMan tells Tinubu’s daughter

Controversial social media critic, Martin Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has publicly criticized Folashade Tinubu, daughter of President Bola Tinubu, for her recent statements urging Nigerians to allow her father three years to govern before assessing his tenure.

Folashade, who holds the position of Iyaloja General of Nigeria, advised Nigerians to be patient with President Tinubu and cautioned parents to prevent their children from participating in the planned hunger protest scheduled for August 1 to 10.

In a video released on Monday, VeryDarkMan expressed his disapproval of Folashade’s plea, urging her instead to ask her father to prevent further worsening of Nigeria’s economic conditions. He emphasized the unreasonableness of expecting the populace to remain silent amid increasing economic hardships.

“Did you realize that people will not be complaining if your father does not have the first worst year in office in the history of Nigeria’s presidency? Warn your father, tell him that Nigerians are suffering. Talk to Daddy for us. Did you warn your dad when he went to protest against Goodluck Jonathan when he raised the fuel price from N65 to N87? The only thing I won’t approve of is that the protesters are violent. Stand for your rights, Nigerians. Protest, but don’t loot. Look at the prices of things. Fuel is N700 plus, and it is still not available. See the queues in gas stations. You can’t increase the price of things, and they will still not be available,” VeryDarkMan said.

Since President Tinubu assumed office on May 29, 2023, following the tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari, Nigeria has faced significant economic challenges. On his inauguration day, Tinubu announced the end of fuel subsidies, which he argued benefited neighboring countries more than Nigerians. This decision caused the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to rise dramatically from N185 to over N700.

In addition to the subsidy removal, Tinubu’s administration implemented financial sector reforms, including floating the naira to encourage market-determined interest rates. This move has led to the naira’s significant devaluation against the dollar, with the exchange rate fluctuating between N1,200 and N1,500 per dollar.

The combination of these policies has exacerbated economic instability and pushed more Nigerians below the poverty line, leading to widespread calls for demonstrations. Prominent political figures, including Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party and Peter Obi of the Labour Party, have expressed support for the protest organizers.

The criticism from VeryDarkMan underscores the growing frustration among Nigerians regarding the current administration’s economic policies. As the planned protests approach, the nation watches closely, reflecting the deep-seated demand for better governance and economic stability.
