Role Overview
micro1 is seeking highly skilled Music Transcription & Polyphonic Audio Experts to train advanced AI models in music analysis and notation generation.
This is not a traditional audio-engineering, mixing, or speech-to-text transcription position. You will solve complex computational musicology problems by separating and transcribing dense, four-part polyphonic audio (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass - SATB) from mono mixdowns into structured, publication-grade MusicXML scores using ear training alongside Python script automation.
Key Responsibilities
Polyphonic Score Reconstruction: Transcribe dense, multi-voice musical recordings (mono/polyphonic mixdowns) into accurate, structured musical notation.
Voice Separation: Isolate four simultaneous lines—Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Bass (SATB)—from complex mixed audio signals.
Event & Grid Analysis: Pinpoint exact pitches, note onsets, durations, rests, re-articulations, and quantize events to the correct rhythmic grid.
Notation Precision: Apply accurate key signatures, dynamic markers, accidentals, and correct enharmonic spelling.
MusicXML Data Generation: Construct, inspect, and manipulate XML score structures programmatically.
Python Scripting & Signal Inspection: Utilize Python packages to inspect audio spectra, analyze pitch frequency distributions, and automate structural score building.
Validation & QA: Verify transcription output quality through resynthesis, auditory review, and programmatic score verification checks.
Requirements & Qualifications
Python Programming: Strong proficiency in Python for scientific computing, signal processing, or data manipulation.
Advanced Ear Training: Proven ability to transcribe multi-part, dense polyphonic arrangements by ear.
Music Theory & Notation: Deep understanding of harmony, voice leading, rhythmic notation, key signatures, and enharmonic equivalence.
SATB / Choral Experience: Familiarity with vocal ranges, score layout, choral arranging, or advanced classical/ensemble transcription.
Relevant Tooling (Flexible): Experience using tools such as
librosa,music21,NumPy,SciPy,Essentia,pretty_midi, or score editors like MuseScore, Sibelius, or Dorico.
Formal degrees and years of corporate experience are not required. Independent arrangers, composers, researchers, choir directors, and self-taught software engineers with proven polyphonic ear skills are encouraged to apply.
